CWE - 523 : Unprotected Transport of Credentials

CWE Definition http://cwe.mitre.org/data/definitions/523.html
Number of vulnerabilities: 0
Description Login pages not using adequate measures to protect the user name and password while they are in transit from the client to the server.
Background Details SSL (Secure Socket Layer) provides data confidentiality and integrity to HTTP. By encrypting HTTP messages, SSL protects from attackers eavesdropping or altering message contents.
Other Notes Login pages should always employ SSL to protect the user name and password while they are in transit from the client to the server. Lack of SSL use exposes the user credentials as clear text during transmission to the server and thus makes the credentials susceptible to eavesdropping.
